Nothing here for me... No plans to upgrade at present, but if I were, it would be an FX body. A still camera that shoots video doesn't really interest me. I used to do a fair amount of video editing, but I don't anymore, so the video capability is not much of a motivation. I suppose when I do eventually move to an FX body, the model available at that time will probably have video anyway, since that seems to be the direction most of the prosumer / pro cameras are going.

It's okay though. Since I can't afford to move to a new body right now, it's nice that I don't have to figure out how to refinance the house, get a third job, or something to pay for my addiction.

I am ordering both as soon as they are available. Book fodder for me.

I love the D90 and D5000 video modes. I am looking forward to the new D300s for that reason.

Stereo sound, 720p HD Video.
In-camera D-Movie editing
New Skin Tone tracking, Finds people easily
DUAL CARDS SLOTS 1 CF and 1 SD/SDHC - Can write to both cards at once, fill one and overflow to other, or Raw on one and JPEG on other.
Added a Quiet Shutter Release Mode
Virtual Horizon in Live View mode
Added Image Retouch features, as expected. No computer needed.
Contrast detect Autofocus DURING video!

I want it!

Sir Digital Darrell the 22nd

Hmmm, hats off to Nikon on these new items but on the camera side, I am not interested. I jumped to quick from the D200 to the D300 and did not get to experience the joy of taking pics with the D200.

I was a video guy but my video requirements are minimal at the moment so the addition of video is a "Okay Nice But" option butnot with the Jazzer.

Since I am always 1-2 years behind and my interest is in FF, the D700 is my next purchase later in life.

The new lens are interesting....hmmmmmm, will keep my interest here. cool.gif

I work with video every day, not interested in a new camera for that feature. Like many money is an issue, the new glass would have more value for me, but again its about the $$$$$. If "She..." were interested in going to a DSLR, maybe the D 3000, but more likely find a nice Da50 instead. I don't see where a lot of people will be dumping the D300 for the D300s so no availability for me to move up.

Kind of a waste of NAS in my mind.

The only really cool thing about the D300s is dual card slots for both CF and SD. But I am still on hold I am saving to go FX. But the D3000 boggles me a bit a 10mp lower than the D5000 DSLR what market are we talking here. $599 with kit lens.

Nikon is scrambling here. IMO they should be focusing on lenses, not misc camera updates. Even better stop racing the prices. The 70-200mm is the only update that made sence in my opinion. There simply is to much stuff Nikon is not updating that should have happend years ago, instead we are seeing unnecessary updates on cameras.

The cameras do nothing for me, as my D300 is enough for what I do - hobby photography. The lenses- I don't know what the big thing is! Can someone enlighten me as to the difference between VR and VRII?

Maybe it's Nikon's way of playing a joke on it's loyal users. biggrin.gif VR and VR too! But actually the tech geeks tend to say the following: VR I can shoot 2-3 stops faster at lower shutter speeds. VR II is 4 stops faster so this means you can shoot at even lower shutter speeds then VR I.

DD...ooooh....me like the D300s. biggrin.gif laugh.gif 720HD video... See stan...you can buy the D300s and get Digital video...too. laugh.gif OK...ignore that...it's just my Nikon Acquisition Syndrome speaking.

It's a bit of a stretch to identify which Nikkor has which VR technology too, Stan - you'll need to study Nikon's site as retailers don't make a distinction generally. The 24-120 VR I have is older tech and actually works quite well. The newer version is a bit quicker but not a whole lot in my experience. Although the new version is very dependable, I think it's a lot more the user's technique that determines the results, not just the VR tech involved.

I agree with Ras - we need many more current stock converted to AF-S/VR optics - with faster and more constant maximum apertures! Glad to hear so many are holding off for FX...

One more improvement the D300s's D-Movie now supports autofocus and an external mic. Still not sure that will sway alot of D300 owners or D200 owners. I am still waiting for the D700 to get a face lift so I can scarf one up under $2000.

Now, I probably will go for the D300s as I don't currently have a D300. My original intent was to get the D300 but I figure unless I can get a deal on the D300 as the D300s has replaced it, I'll go after the one with HD Video capability. I'll just pick and choose when to use that function. As anything; using a dual-use camera (still and video) for video will probably end up putting a lot of wear and tear onto the camera sensor.

I sold my D300 this morning to a friend who has been wanting one for a while now. Alamy.com is paying me a sizable payout from stock photo sales on August 1st. On August 2nd, my D300s will be on the way! I want the video, and double-card slots. Plus, I must write a book on it. Now, the D3000 is next.

I've written two full books in the last 90 days. (D90 and D5000) Surely, I can write two more by springtime!
