Saw these today at Kinderdijk, The Netherlands.

 

Amazing all the languages you hear when walking amongst all the tourists...

Thanks, Ron. Not sure if these particular ones are being used commercially but I did observe that folks are residing in may of them. Must be quite an experience having a windmill as a home!

When I visited in 2015 there was one mill running but as a demonstration of its former life, lifting water to a higher level. There is a more modern  :rolleyes:  device, archimedes screw, which can lift water a greater distance than a series of windmills in one operation...doing the job now. A series of windmill/pumps lifted water to successively higher ponds in the original configuration. :)
