#261401 The Photo Ark

Posted by Leaviathan on 17 June 2019 - 04:42 PM

I watched an interesting story on 60 Minutes last night, they covered photographer Joel Sartore and his Photo Ark, it's his mission to take a photo of every living animal, reptile and insects that are in captivity to put them in one place to bring all of them into the public eye. he's a former Nat Geo photographer that uses Nikon D850's and 810's

#260609 Motorcycle Racing images (VERY Image Heavy!!)

Ducati is a big name here, see them at shows all the time.  I don't really know the brands enough to differentiate.  I am a race enthusiast more than an equipment enthusiast.  Kawasaki, Yamaha and BMW seem to be the brand of favor or the most visible at the races.

Best I can tell you.

BMW are my favorite overall, and would love to pick up an R1200GS Enduro, they don't look like an on/off bike but they handle it well.   https://www.bmwmotor...cB&gclsrc=aw.ds

#260531 Color Guard

Posted by Leaviathan on 30 March 2019 - 06:56 AM

I think they should stick with M-1 Garands or M-14's for this kind of stuff, wooden stocks just look better!  The color looks good, there's the obvious face shadows because of the no flash request, other than that it looks good to me!

#260273 Nikon Rumours - More Mirrorless Rumours

Posted by Leaviathan on 14 March 2019 - 01:45 PM

Why?

I hope they don't.  I think their road map should be nothing but Z and only Z and leave it at that.

Have some really solid body offerings and make two lines of lenses, Pro and Consumer and move on.

Then lose most of your customers to Canon, Sony and Fuji who's putting out affordable mirrorless cameras. I think if someone can afford a Z body they can also afford the nice lenses.

Cool photo... is it the strong winds ... or the heavy gulls that have twisted that jetty ?? :P :D

Many storms have battered that coastline, last year about a dozen telephone poles bit the dust on the road along that beach

#259830 Joe Galloway Interview

Posted by Leaviathan on 17 February 2019 - 07:22 AM

For those interested here's a decent article about Joe Galloway, combat photographer who did four tours in Vietnam through Desert Storm, his character was spotlighted in the 2002 movie We Were Soldiers. Joe used a Nikon F SLR throughout his tours in Vietnam. I emailed him once asking about CSM Basil Plumley who served from WW2-Vietnam and he kindly returned a lengthy email.

#259444 Too many full frame fanboys in photography.

Posted by Leaviathan on 03 February 2019 - 02:29 PM

DX/APS-C will continue because there's a large crowd that can't afford FF. Most cameras I see in peoples hands are Nikon D3400's, Canon T3i-T6i or decent Point and Shoots

You can take pro quality photos with a D3200, all that's needed is experience.
