Went to Hermann Park today and got a few with my newly acquired lens. I used the 10 stop ND for the waterfall. I took a shot directly in front of it but the grill was shaky and the pic came out blurry. So I had to get the tripod on the concrete. Something strange about the lens is it properly exposes at 12mm. As you zoom to 24 it overexposes on the D7100-gotta compensate for it. From my experience Nikon digital bodies are not the most accurate with metering if using a pre D or third party lens. I have better luck with the film bodies.

Good series, Bill.  Some out of the box creativity!  :)

I've never used a Tokina lens.  What do you think of the image quality?

I haven't done any critical testing with it yet. But so far I think it's very good-I shot with it stopped down to f/8-11 for these. From the research I've done on this lens it is high on the CA's at all focal lengths and soft at 24mm wide open.

Bill,

Looks like a nice lens. But is it me or is there a band of red tint running across this image between 1/3 and 1/2 way down from the top? I don't see it in any of the other shots.

That's light leaking in through the viewfinder. I forgot to cover the finder with the 10 stop ND filter on. With a strong ND you need to cover the finder. It was worse but I fixed it the best I could in Photoshop.

I've seen red many times on long exposures when I inadvertently left the viewfinder open. Literally and figuratively. Nice series Bill.

That's a really good lens. I used it a lot until I went to just FX. My wife now uses it a bit on her D7100.. Never had an issue with it, it's a pretty well built lens.

D50, D90, D100 IR, D700, D800E and a bunch of old manual lenses..
