Last weekend saw the New Brighton RSA's annual trip over the Alps to attend the horse racing event at Kumara...as usual I went along...and took a few photos, even included a few horses.. :)

Of course there was the usual 'best dressed lady' competition...I didn't shoot any of the best dressed men :P

Very nice series Peter! Funny the name Kumara made me think something exotic like camel racing sometimes my mind just goes haywire. Lol :P

Haha .. I wish.. Herman, I only produced sons (one of whom is working on girls :)) . Of all the contestants this young lady stood out for me... and she did look in my direction for the shot.

Not sure why Kumara got to be called that name Jim...it is a Maori (polynesian) word for a sweet potatoe they brought with them way back when they arrived... kumara originate from South America... so how polynesians got hold of them is a bit of a mystery, maybe from Hawaii. Kumara, .the town, was a centre for gold mining in the early days...not much happens there now ...between race days :rolleyes:
