On our way back from Florida we spent an extra day on the road, because of a storm at home I didn't want to drive into.  We drove from Winchester to Harpers Ferry.  I had never been there and was interested to see it.

I was very surprised at how small of a building "John Brown's Fort" was.  It was really the fire department for the Arsenal at Harpers Ferry and was moved after the war to accommodate the construction of a railroad bridge across the Potomac.

From Harpers Ferry we drove through the Maryland countryside to Sharpsburg, another first for me.

From here we went on to Gettysburg, weather went bad, so no pictures there.

After we got home we got busy at work and family issues, so I'm just getting caught up with my trip photos.

Mark, that whole area is loaded with History opportunities, but my wife can only handle just so much of my "tour narratives".

Very nice series, Cliff. I have been to Gettysburg a few times, the battle field is interesting and the town is extremely quaint. I was fascinated by the endless supply of battlefield musketballs you could buy.
