Posts I've Made

04 September 2021 - 07:32 PM

OK, because you "went there", I'll go a little further.  One of Darrell's posts referenced a new FB site that he's setting up.  Also, is he still involved with that Digital Enthusiasts group?  Perhaps he's afraid that PN would be competition for both groups?  Just wondering.  That's the only way that I can explain not stepping aside, to let someone with more enthusiasm run PN.

I would love to be proved wrong on this.

I am not sure there would be a competition per-say. His sites are typically enthusiasts that purchase his books. People also flit about here and there today anyway, there is no such thing in my opinion with "One Forum Only" loyalty.  I would find it hard to believe that is the basis, but you never know.

My primary concern is the database.

I tried to collect my posts and have found it next to impossible to find the ones I want in an organized fashion, much less figure out a way to collect them.

Even any images are hard to collect in a simple and easy way.

As for stepping aside, he was never here in the majority of the years that I was here so I find it hard to believe he has some attachment and if he did you would think he would like to see it continue even if he isn't involved.

In Topic: That time of year again-weather

03 September 2021 - 02:40 PM

Surprisingly, we melted in Toronto.  Lots of humidity to make is worst. And, a ton of rain. Temperatures seemed high this year. Right now, we are having typical Fall weather, it is lovely out.

Strange summer.

Our garden benefited, everything is really lush and over grown. Our grass however is a disaster in the backyard. Lots of crab grass.

We had a flooding in the neighbourhood south of us.  I am on pretty high ground, good drainage by and large.

South of us, it is down hill to Lake Ontario.  There are a few dips and valleys on some streets.  One of them had water half way up the doors of the cars caught in it!!

Pretty bad.  It just poured down like nothing I have seen in a long time.

The east seems to be getting all the water. New York got hammered yesterday! The West is suffering drought!

I must admit that I'm stumped.

If Darrell has lost interest in PN, that happens all of the time.  No worries.  However, I fail to understand why he would be reluctant to pass along/transfer/sell his interest in the site to people who are interested in continuing?  I won't speculate further.

Or, to SABOTAGE it!

That is what pissed me off!

I am actively trying to save this site posting everywhere for people to join and he shut off the JOIN request.

I am also stumped as to why it has to disappear.... it could easily continue with a hand off and we save the history. This simply doesn't sit with me at the moment.
Wouldn't cost him anything.

What am I missing here???

Art, I would be very interesting in learning what you eventually find out.

I was always happy to contribute towards the operation of PN, and I would be happy to help keep it running if the cost isn't ridiculous.  If we REALLY like PN, this would be our chance to REALLY show it.  ;)

I haven't posted any images since we learned about PN's likely demise a couple of years ago.  I guess I figured "...what's the point..."?  I have a hunch that I'm not the only one who feels this way.  If we can migrate PN to a new platform, I'd be happy to start sharing again.  I haven't stopped shooting!  B)

I called.  I spoke to a Rep there.  He took down the information and checked out our site.  He compared it to the site I referenced that was running our old software.

He passed the information on to his manager and promised someone would get back to me early next week.

As so as I know, I will be happy to update you.

I do not believe the issue here will be COST!

I think there is a deeper rooted ISSUE here as to why this site was SABOTAGED to die on the vine in spite of our efforts to save it. This isn't our first attempt to try and SAVE PN!

It wasn't us who LOCKED DOWN MEMBERSHIP so no new people could join.

I will find out the cost just to dispel any BS that this site could not be ported and saved.  After that, it is not up to me.

Just as an update, I reached out to Vertical Scope, since they are local and they said this was right up there ally.

So, so much for impossible to port or upgrade!

History preserved, new skin, modern and efficient look.

I am researching the cost.

As I said, another forum I frequent did this, they had the same issue and the new site has the same feel and is pretty slick.  The transition was seamless, all history preserved.
