I'm curious about a particular lens and was wondering if someone here could tell me it?

It's interesting but appears to mid-1980's. The one shown here has seen a lot of mileage. No doubt it's built like a tank, but I wonder about image quality on a digital camera.

Art I think uses the f3.5 version of the same vintage lens with great results. It may look rough but if the glass is clean I would bet it will perform perfectly since there is not much that can go wrong.

Plus it is an ED version and I have found my older lens really shine on my new digital cameras! :D

Manufactured between Dec 1985 - 2002.  That low of a serial number (200017 - 202601) means 1986 or 1987.

Don't mind me..... I'm just out roaming around between Zone II and Zone IX.

Well I'm disappointed but another Nikon Nikkor ED IF AIS 400mm f/2.8 lens I was looking at bid out of my range. It was even nicer than the one I showed above. The one I showed above was a "Buy-It-Now" at around $2,700 US, whereas the one shown below was sitting for around $1,000. It closed at 8:30 AM PST and about an hour before closing it at $1,500, which was very borderline. But then in the last few seconds of the bid a tricky person bid it up by an additional $400. I is truly a beautiful piece of glass and was well worth it but it would take a bit more cogitation for me to figure out how to swing that with Mrs.

looks like a great buy. I was contemplating in another thread whether to buy this one or a 600 f/4, also MF. How much does this baby weigh?
