#262697 Thom Hogan on the Nikon Z50

All I can say is:

I would not have gone this route. Why invent the wheel twice?

I dont get it....

Art not everyone needs the size, cost and weight of full frame and lets be honest the IQ difference is not as great as it used to be! The D500 is killer many sports photographers use it.

The fact you can now get a Z with all the Zs Mount advantages in a smaller package complete with two nice lens under $1400 is a win for us lower income photographers.

Fuji is killing it in the DX mirror less market Nikon Is trying to take a chunk of that market back.

Add the specs are pretty good, 11 FPS on an entry level camera thats a true shot across Sonys DX system that sells very well by the way. Nikon is going right at Sonys A64xx cameras.

#262683 Nikon Rumours: Nikon Z50?

Posted by james23p on 10 October 2019 - 07:56 PM

Mark and Denis,
You can still add little consumer-related features to a design ... like a pop-up flash and an EVF.  If you can design it on a DX mirrorless, what is the difference between doing it for an FX mirrorless? The only rationale in this fiasco-to-be maybe is it may be cheaper to manufacture so you can come out with a very inexpensive mirrorless body. However, this, in my opinion, is a fail.

I simply see another ship leaving the dock and hitting an iceberg somewhere along the way.  If in fact, the Z50 is a reality, I am not thrilled with the decision to go this way.  I personally feel it is a mistake.  Drains resources that could be better utilized on the flagship line.
My strategy would be to put out 5 rock solid cameras:
1) Pro Sports
2) Pro Studio
3) Mid Range Pro/Serious Amateur
4) Camera buff
5) Consumer
and be done with it.  Make these all category killers with solid, currently acceptable feature sets. More is just muddying the waters.  Time will tell.

I disagree Art they need a feeder system that they can sell at the big box stores. Large portions of the US no longer have a dedicated camera store so many will never see or hold a Z6/7?etc.

The Z50 I think gives them that camera that they can sell everywhere.

Looking at it today with two lens kit its still under 1400$ and it uses the full size Z Mount and can use the FTX adapter and FX Z lens. This is going to sell and the specs are good two basic lens.

To be honest if this was out I would most likely bought this and never have moved to Fuji. Though Fuji has become a serious premium brand at less than premium prices.

#262636 Mac ending 32 bit support

Posted by james23p on 05 October 2019 - 05:54 PM

Hmm I really dont have a lot of software on my Mac mostly photo editors that I think are already 64 bit.

But it is frustrating the never ending cycle of having to buy new stuff even though the old stuff still works great.
