Nice shot, Herman.

I have to confess that you had me for a moment, until I realized that it was food sticking out of his beak.  :)

Oh dear, Cliff!

You seem to have been hit bad!  :o   However, all of that cabinetry suggests that there is one very pleasant possible side effect of TAS:  Happy Wife = Happy Life.  ;)

#260856 Thom Hogan - How Many Photos Did It Take?

I like it when people write about something other than what gear to use:

Wow!  Kervin, for a HH shot, that is very well done.  :)

#260831 April 2019 challenge-wide angle macro

Posted by Sailjunkie on 20 April 2019 - 11:57 AM

For these l used the Canon EOS M50, EOS M to M42 tilt adapter, 10mm M42 extension tube, and Takumar M42 28mm f/3.5. l like how the short focal length kinda stretches the watch dials. What l don't like is working distance-the lens almost touched the subject.

Nice lighting on all 3 images, Bill.  For DOF, I like #1 and #3.  :)

#260801 Red Balloon

Very cool Mark.... and wow the clean up job... of the props  :D

Thank you, Peter.  And the props were very tasty.  ;)

#260794 Red Balloon

Posted by Sailjunkie on 17 April 2019 - 11:40 PM

Our assignment was simple.  One.  Red.  Balloon.  We could be as creative as we liked.  Our instructor described this as a "concept" shot.  The only was that the balloon had to feature prominently in the shot.

Sounds simple, right?  Guess again!  More than one of my original ideas was scuppered by lens and backdrop limitations.  Happily, my decision to rigorously apply the KISS principle coincided with Angela's decision to bake some cupcakes.  Voila!

Red%20Balloon-20190408-X3.jpg

I shot this with:

  • 2 Godox Sk-300 strobes and soft-boxes
  • 2 scrims
  • 1 small black card, to reduce brightness on lower camera right.

Camera settings:

  • ISO 64
  • 24-70 @ 38mm
  • 1/80 sec
  • f 16

My instructor loved it, especially the rich colours and contrast  He pointed out how I had managed to light the stem in between the 2 levels.

One nice side benefit:  a VERY yummy aftermath!  Thanks for looking everyone.  :)

#260790 Adobe Lightroom Issue with some D850 files

I like Adobe, but sometimes they really tick me off.  Here's another example:

#260760 Needs a title

Posted by Sailjunkie on 13 April 2019 - 12:44 PM

I really like the shot, Dennis.

I don't have a short title.  How about:  "Quiet, please.  Abooboo at work!"?

#260756 Cat thinks he's man of the house.

Posted by Sailjunkie on 12 April 2019 - 01:02 PM

Thanks guys, yeah.... he thinks.

Dennis, he doesn't think he knows:lol:

Wonderful shot.

I usually mangle jokes, but this one is worth telling:

A Rottweiler, a German Shepherd and a cat all go to heaven.  God asks the Rottweiler to tell him what he has done, to deserve a place in heaven.  After hearing the story, God says "That's wonderful!  You may sit at my left hand."  He then puts the same question to the German Shepherd.  After hearing the German Shepherd's reply, he invites the German Shepherd to sit at his right hand.  Finally, he puts the same question to that cat.  The cat replies:  "Dude, you're sitting in my spot".

#260746 New Russian watch

Posted by Sailjunkie on 11 April 2019 - 12:36 PM

Nice series, Bill.

Especially that last image.  No bright speculars.  Did you use speed-lights for lighting?  If so, I'd love to know more about your set-up.  :)
