This is a history just like those headlines that caught you by the weirdness, but soon develops to be some kind of exaggeration!

But not far from the true, this is a super, super wide that I "build up" using my 85mm lens, some Photoshop steróids and, at least, 15 shots combined to get this result!!

You should check into some Gigapans...... a few are full 360x180 panos.  Some taken with 300 and 400mm lenses, and using thousands of shots.

Don't mind me..... I'm just out roaming around between Zone II and Zone IX.

Great shot, excellent work with Photoshop.

Nikon made a "Panoramic Head" used with a tripod for stitching shots together going back to the 1950s. It was set up to move the camera in steps, and was calibrated for various focal lengths. The original came with a Nikon Bubble-Level that sat on the camera. The second version "AP-2" had a built in level.

Nikkor-SC 5cm F1.5. And maybe 100 or so other Nikkor lenses. Maybe 60 of those are on Nikon cameras right now.
