Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(

I shot in JPEG yesterday and HATED IT!!!!!

Cleaned my equiment, charged up the batteries, formatted my drives...but did not check to see what setting the camera was on.

I never .. never..change this, Been a RAW only shooter since starting with Lightroom in 2006. I have hundreds of presets that some get used.

I am rechecking the system and recording my actions now. Never..Never..Again

:(

Been there done that just a few weeks ago. My only saving grace was how good Fuji's JPEGs are.

I can't tell you how many times I've dropped the camera into JPEG mode to use the HDR feature, and then forgot to put it back to RAW.  What's really maddening is that LR doesn't detect the lens profile automatically when I use JPEG.

Digital: D610 backed up by a D1x.  Quoted from an unknown source by a fellow planeteer, "Never get rid of a working D1x." I've got to agree.

Film: N90s, F3, F100, F4s, C330s. A few lenses.

Why film photography? I like shooting with the equipment. 6x6 Velvia slides from a C330 have an appeal all their own.

Why automated 35mm/Digital cameras? Event photography is about capturing moments. It often requires quick response. Well done automaton can be your friend or your enemy. It all depends on knowing what it can and can't do. "A man's got to know his (camera's) limitations." paraphrasing Dirty Harry...

I've got a big event in a couple of weeks - the PGA Tour Championship.  Some of the images of fans and venues will require flash.  The deal is I have to turn in finished JPEG files before I leave the premises every day.  I can post process in camera, convert selects only to JPEG, but everything has to be done in-camera.  That means consciously selecting picture controls, making sure white balance is right, nailing exposure, etc.  I'll be shooting RAW and probably converting select files to JPEG with a little in camera processing.  That's new for me, but seems better than submitting hundreds of JPEG's that are straight from the camera.

I hate choosing JPEG by mistake, but it is possible to get good straight from the camera images.  For me it's a different thought process, and requires more conscious setup.  Close to the right exposure won't be the same as nailing exposure as latitude for adjustment is less.

Eric -- is shooting tethered an option? Maybe with an 11" laptop??
