I have been unable to get tethered shooting to work since upgrading to ElCapitan. Using a D800E and a new MacBook Pro. Anyone else have the same problem?

I'm not on a mac. I did hear that there was some issue. Jon H is active on facebook. You might want to private message him there, I think he may have said something about it.

Thanks, Dennis.

Ron,

Was this issue resolved?  I use a MacBook Pro and I have an iPad but have not tried tethering yet.

It is something I want to try next!

If it is resolved, do you mind sharing your configuration?

Thanks,

I have not upgraded to El Capt. I will sit tight until this issue is resolved.  I assume you are tethered through Lightroom ? I am getting ready to start a project for next Veteran's Day and tethering capability is important to that effort.

I don't use LR, I am still using NX2.

I take it, there is no tethering with the discontinued Nikon software?

Thanks,

It isn't resolved for me Art. It seems to be a problem between, and it depends on who is telling the story, Nikon and Adobe, or Adobe and Apple, and does not affect PCs. It seems to have started with the introduction of El Capitan or a new Lightroom update. I hadn't tried to tether anything since the introduction of El Capitan. If I figure out anything, I'll let you know.

Don, thank you. I think the first two links are for PCs and they are not having a problem. I actually looked at the last link a few days ago, and what they offer looks good, but I'm not sure what they offer addresses this problem. I'm trying to get a clarification on that right now.

Ron, I haven't tried shooting tethered, but would be interested down the road.  It sounds like you spoke with Apple.  If so, I'm curious about what they told you.

I heard about a tethering issue when El Capitan was introduced.  However, based on their track record, I suspected Adobe right off the bat.  From what I've seen, Adobe has a terrible track record when it comes to updates.

Gary, I'm supposed to be getting a telephone call from a guy who is purportedly tethering a D800E on a Macbook Pro using ElCapitan. If he calls, and everything else is equal and correct, I'll post the info on here.

El Capitan has been a bit of a disaster. My HP ScanJet 5590 won't work with it due to a driver issue and there is no solution in sight. I gotta wonder if they break this stuff on purpose so we have to buy new hardware <_<

Digital: D610 backed up by a D1x.  Quoted from an unknown source by a fellow planeteer, "Never get rid of a working D1x." I've got to agree.

Film: N90s, F3, F100, F4s, C330s. A few lenses.

Why film photography? I like shooting with the equipment. 6x6 Velvia slides from a C330 have an appeal all their own.

Why automated 35mm/Digital cameras? Event photography is about capturing moments. It often requires quick response. Well done automaton can be your friend or your enemy. It all depends on knowing what it can and can't do. "A man's got to know his (camera's) limitations." paraphrasing Dirty Harry...

There is a way to shoot tethered without using the tethered feature of LR.

Connect the camera to the computer, and set it up to send the raw files to a folder. MIght need to use the ethernet, and might have to also add the free software from Nikon to place it in a folder. You need to check your manual to see which options you hav. It's buried, but it can be done. This is completely outside of lightroom.

Then setup lightroom to watch that folder.

As the camera dumps each image to that folder, lightroom pick it up since it is watching that folder. Just a backdoor way of tethering. I haven't tried it, but I know my D4 can do it. I'm working on "tethering" wirelessly and I have to purchase some stuff. But, I tested it using wires last year or so I don't remember the details unless I go look thrught the stuff again. I think I found out I didn't really need the Nikon software, but I'm not sure. Worth looking into if you need it. It will be awhile for Adobe to come out with 6.3, and then, I would wait until others test it out.

Thanks, Dennis.

Adobe seems to do strange things. On the last update when I updated PS CC it unchecked a open GL box and so several of the filters where greyed out it took me 15 minutes to figure out why. Just don't understand why they do some of the stuff they do.

I was playing around with Photos and shooting tethered, images would show in my Photos are and then I would have to import them into LR.

Lightroom 6.4 update is supposed to bring this back to Nikon and Leica folks.
