The bat had lost most of it's energy, so he and equipment were OK.
It's a real treat to be in that area during games. You see all the dugout activity and hear the conversations.
I mooched a broken bat from Keith Hernandez once. He had just hit a double with bases loaded. He was in a good mood and I bucked-up the courage to ask for it.
