Newest fish aquarium pics

The Cardinal Tetras I got in late January has a parasite and all died when I was medicating the tank a few days after I got them. So I got some Glowlight Tetras.

New aquarium flash photography technique

30 January 2018 - 12:48 AM

In the past when I would use off camera flash for aquarium photography I had the problem of reflection on the glass. Today I tried a folded box on top of the tank to block light from the flash from lighting up what's in front of the tank. It worked well! The 2nd flash does nothing other than to serve as a counterweight so the tripod does not tip over. D5300, Tamron 16-300, Cowboy Studio wireless radio trigger, SB-80DX in manual mode. The MeFoto backpacker tripod was small enough to sit behind the tank.

Small catfish

Today I added 2 Corydoras Catfish to the 10 gallon tank. Set the D5300 on a tripod and managed to get a good shot of them still. They get to about 2 inches(50mm) I want to photograph my White Cloud Mountain Minnows, but off camera flash is the only option with them. They NEVER stay still. Not even for 1/250 of a second :)

Moving the fish up from 5 to 10 gallons

01 January 2018 - 09:47 PM

I've been wanting to do this project for a couple of months but have been very busy. Saturday I went to Petco and Aquarium World and picked up a few things-10 gallon tank, filter, and sand. I'm painting the back blue. Just got finished putting the first coat of paint on. It will probably take 3 coats of paint to fully cover it and not have brush strokes. The back of the 5 gallon was painted black and I wanted to try blue. After the last coat dries, I'll cover it with contact paper to protect the paint from getting scratched as the paint does not stick to glass that good. The colored gravel will be replaced with black sand. I didn't get a light fixture, so the home made light fixture for the 5 gallon will have to be used until I get a fancy LED light for a 10 gallon. Can't wait to get the big tank going. I have 5 White Cloud Mountain Minnows now. First I wanted to get 5 more White Clouds, but am thinking about 5 Cardinal Tetras or Lemon Tetras to add. But Tetras are tropical fish and I'd have to add a heater to keep about 76 deg F. White Clouds can be kept in temps from 50-77 F and I never had a heater when I had White Clouds only. It's been about 20 years since I've had a 10 gallon. In recent years I've done 2.5, 5, and 20 gallon tanks but no 10.

I agree

When I saw this on the back of the truck I said "Heck yeah!"
