Topics I've Started

Almost went a whole year without....

08 December 2018 - 05:55 AM

....spending a dime on photo gear. The goal for 2018 was to do alot of shooting and send little or nothing on gear. Didn't do much shooting but was doing good about not buying stuff. Yesterday l won a D7000 auction on Ebay so it ended. But l'm selling the D5300 and D70s to pay for the 7000 so does that count? :) l almost made it-only about 3 more weeks until the year's end.

What about a D7000 for a 2nd body?

I've learned that the D5300 is a nice capable body, but is lacking in a few features. It back focuses with some lenses and there's no AF fine tune to correct it. lt does not AF screw drive lenses such as my 85 1.8D. l'm also considering getting the 105 2.8 micro next year, and the D is much less $$ than the G. So l really want a body that will AF the old lenses. If $$ were not an issue l'd just go ahead and get a shiny new D500. And a used D7500 is still almost a grand. A second D7100 would make me happy, but they're still high priced on the used market. l figure l can get a used 7000 in EX condition for about $50 more than l can get for the 5300. 16 MP is more than enough. Do you think the 7000 is a good body? And a bonus is my 7100 can share batteries with it.

Any DX mirrorless bodies in the future?

l wonder if there's going to be low cost DX mirrorless bodies in the near future with the Z6/Z7 mount? That would be exciting since l love the DX sensor size.

AF accuracy of Z6/Z7?

Has mirrorless eliminated the back/front focus issue? Are they more accurate at AF than a DSLR?

Polarizer just killed it.

l didn't think a polarizer would kill this much of the sun's glare on the bench. Was really impressed. The sun and the camera must have been at the perfect angle.
