Amy finished third in this race last Saturday. It was the final race in the TransAm series, the next one will be in March at Sebring, FL. She has had a mechanically-plagued season this year, after switching to a new Corvette body last year. She was the series winner the previous 2 years, having won 8 races in the 2015 season. She was running 2nd in this race with 2 laps to go when the was hit by another car. She finished the race with a badly damaged car, and still managed to get a podium finish in 3rd place. This shot was taken from the bed of a pickup truck and it shows the steep bank of the turns at Daytona, as it appears to be an overhead shot. This was shot at the relatively low shutter speed of 250th of a second in order to capture the blurring of the wheels thus adding the appearance of motion to the speeding car, which was traveling at approximately 160-170 mph at this point. It as a cloudy heavily overcast day.

She finished the race with her car in this condition. The crushed panelling flew off her car at 160 mph.

Great shots Ron. I like the fact that the SCCA is improving and updating the types of body styles that they run. I'm not a Corvette guy but the C7R is one of my favourites. The Rolex 24 hour Daytona race (IMSA, not SCCA) has always been on my "bucket" list. I checked out the Trans-Am schedule for 2019 - good to see them expanding to more venues. I might have to think about checking them out in Detroit, even though it is a street circuit and offers no really good photographic shooting points for us non-credential plebes.

Just noticed the moisture/liquid all over the splitter (in all 3 shots) - that's odd, must have been something to do with the weather/humidity and air pressure on the nose of the car.

Nice series, Ron, but that must have hurt.  Like Dennis, I'm glad to hear that she is OK.  :)

Hi Peter, and thanks for commenting. I'm an IMSA fan too, in fact Marty Kauffman a neighbor of mine, was for many years the Chief Steward for IMSA. Sadly, Marty is suffering with some health issues currently and is not able to go to any races. He was the best Chief Steward that IMSA ever had. We went to COTA in Austin, TX last Sunday. Amy finished 4 there. With respect to the moisture on the splitter, I think that is just dings and imperfections in the graphite that you're seeing. I think there is a good chance that Amy will be going to a Camaro body next season, the aero is much better on that car, more like the drag coefficient on the current Mustangs, which is really good.

Car looks a little "airy" after crash.  Will check out the schedule for a Watkins Glen appearance.

She is world famous!

She really is Phil. She was recently inducted into some kind of motor racing Hall of Fame (don't recall the name), that has only 3 female drivers including Janet Guthrie and Danica Patrick. She was the first woman to win a Trans Am race, the first woman to win the series championship, which she did 2 years in a row.
