Took some time off from commissioned wood work to make two benches on spec, as in, available for sale immediately
The design was driven by two elements I wanted to use, the sharp edge on the side of the handles and the carved joint between the turned leg and the square rails.
This is a quick and dirty video of the hand planing...
For the leg joint, the part that meets the rail is left square on the lathe. Then most of the waste is removed on the bandsaw. The rest is handwork with a carving burr in a die grinder and then drum sander and hand sanding.
