Hello all

Joined maybe 2 years ago and just been staying in the shadows. Not that I’m anti-social mind you. Just in general don’t have a lot to say. I’m a listener. You can learn a lot listening.

I am a Louisianan transplant to Wisconsin. Been in Wisconsin for 25 years actually. Job related. But every winter when I’m shoveling snow I wonder why I am not back in Louisiana.

I was always a photographer at heart. Started back in the days of 110 Instamatic’. Moved to 35mm film while in the US Marine Corps with different cameras. Never made it to SLR’s in those days because of the cost of film and processing. After the Marines, with college getting married and raising son’s, my photography stayed limited to the essentials.

They boys grew up and I found more time to explore. Bought my first DSLR 4 years ago, Nikon 3100 rebuilt. Upgraded most every year until now I’m shooting a Nikon D7200. I have a truck load of lens. But my primaries are a Tamron 16-300mm for every day walk around and a Nikon FX 50mm 1.8F for portraits.

I am an amateur. I strive to always get better, but I do not strive to be a professional. If I become a professional, then photography becomes a job. I already have a job. I’m an Electrical Engineer and System Administrator for a global Engineering community. Photography is one of my stress releases. I do strive to get better by learning from others. But I don’t want photography to become a new stress point. I will loose interest pretty quick that way.

I shot one wedding once. An old friend and his longtime girlfriend. The wedding was bare bones for lack of funds. They were not from well off family’s financially. I did it as a favor. But was worried to death whole time I would screw up their wedding pictures. It really did work out well. But I’m not interested in that that professionally again ether. It’s that whole not needing/wanting more stress in my life thingy.

Hi and welcome to the planet. Do you like the 16-300? Seems like a great lens when you need to travel light and carry one lens.

Still shooting DX digital and don't plan on going full frame.
