One of the reasons I stopped off here obviously was because I shoot Nikons. Also because I see many of you here are also self employed or have photography businesses. That brings me to this sub forum where I would like opinions.
my site is still fairly fluid at this point so i'm really not stuck on any thing particular.

I have a rough plan worked out that has me building my photography into a business that is running full steam when I retire in about 10 years.
This is one of the first steps forward in that plan.

Just so you know the story I originally started taking pictures of gundogs and their owners. I still do dog photography so it is a bit of a strange combination..

I used to train English setters. I see Winchester is manufacturing the 101 again. I am looking for a 20ga 26in field gun. You probably know Dennis Dawson?

When I click on your link, it bounces.

Blanco,

As you asked for an opinion, I will give you an honest one AS I SEE IT! I hope others chime in with their own point of view!

1)

I greatly dislike these canned template cutesy sites.

2)

You have maybe 10 seconds to grab a surfers attention.
In my opinion, your site does not do that.

3)

What's your specialty?

4)

Rates?

5)

Some links are empty.

6)

Takes too long to download pages.

7)

You need more variety of images, in portraits for example.

It is a basic site, and that is A-OK, it is an excellent start. Push it until it doesn't meet your needs!

I have been working on a site, very frustrated with the process and the options!

I purchased a Wordpress site, ... garbage! Most Wordpress fails what I want, customization gets to be expensive and nothing really fits what I want!

Websites are a very difficult process!

I think, you need to define what you want the site to do:

- introduce you
- get someone to call you
- a commerce site
- a place to showcase your work

Each is a market adventure in its own right, I think you need to pick a direction, then build a masterful site that delivers that message!

Good luck with the journey!

Hope this is of some help.

The link you posted didn't work.

I took the liberty to edit the code, hope you don't mind.

Thanks Art for fixing the link. I tried yesterday and I was blocked on this end, or possibly operator malfunction.
I agree with you on the website and I am really not a fan either. The thing is this was a fairly easy do it mostly yourself / Fill in the blanks kind of site.
It was also affordable and allowed me to get it up and running relatively quickly. I am still in the process of tweaking it to my liking.
I will most likely have a site professionally assembled in the future as websites are not my forte'
I also need a bit more volume of examples to display
It is still evolving....Training wheels

If you're starting out, Zenfolio isn't a bad choice at all - especially if you want to prevent unauthorized downloads.  I believe that users can extensively customize their sites, but the degree of customization may depend on your plan.

I will probably do a lot more customizing in the future, but for now, it meets my requirements.  I like the fact that they are geared towards photographers.  From what I hear about Word Press, the same can't be said.

Interestingly, I believed I had a large portfolio that would be used on the website. What I discovered is on a website I had many pictures that really did not look as good as I had imagined.

I went through that myself.

Now, I tell myself that I should only post my best work.  I've made some progress, but this is still very much a Work In Progress.
