I've been reading and learning for awhile now. I finally decided to join. I'm not a big poster, which considering my looks is a good thing, and am more of a reader. I started off with a 110 instamatic that I still have. Then on to a Pentax ME while in the army. That served me in a part-time job as a reporter while in college. Then in law enforcement I got out of photography since marriage cost too much to allow any hobbies. A friend gifted me her father's complete Nikon set up. I foolishly sold those wonderful manual lenses and cameras to KEH and bought canon. Then divorce cost me the canons. So I scrounged the cash for a Minolta s414 point and shoot and my first digital venture.

Now that I'm semi-retired and starting a part-time job as a reporter I decided to get back to Nikon. My signature has what I can afford to start with.

I'll probably have some questions as I'm not a good photographer. The photo for my profile is one of the first shots with my new OLD D2h. That little squirrel didn't want it's picture taken I guess. Note the left front paw, I think it flipped me the bird!

Anyway, thanks for the advice many of you gave me by your posts in response to other threads. I read those before deciding to go with two old D2 series and better lenses. I think your advice has already helped with the gear... now if you could just teach me how to compose those truly good photos I see posted here.

Good light and good luck,
Eric

Welcome aboard Golov. Your story is the same as many of us.  We all started somewhere and we are all still on the road to improving our game.  Feel free to ask questions we have a lot of talented folks here that are willing to help.  BTW, which service branch?  We have members from all.

Thanks for all the welcomes. I don't post much on forums. I find I can usually get the answers reading.

Jim, I was in Memphis twice. Once involved too much alcohol and the other time I ended up in the Army Infantry!

Fotofill, I was making regular trips to Vandy Medical Center. VA up here sent me there because none of the docs up here could figure out what was wrong with my leg. I lived in Nashville when I was 9 y.o. while my dad was attending Vandy. That was a long time ago and Nashville has changed!

Old Dog New Tricks, I was ARMY '82-84 and '99-03. I guess you could say I didn't learn my lesson the first time.

Dennis, I lived for four years in Wyoming and this will sound crazy but I'm jonesing for the smell of sagebrush. I'd pay to have some sent to me.

Good light and good luck,
Eric
