Hi Guys

A friend of mine here, (shuttabugga), (Scotty), who's still off the net, no computer replacement yet, (still chasing bonefish in the pacific  :)

He has requested I ask you guys about the GoPro

Has an old model Olympus waterproof camera and wondered how the IQ of the GoPro would compare with the Olympus?

The latest GoPro Hero 3+ black edition now has 12mp sensor and 4k video, (what ever that means  :) )

Might get one myself, that would be called? GAS?

........Gary

I think they appeal to people who like to jump out of perfectly good airplanes and off tall buildings, or ride surfboards.

Actually, my friend I mentioned here, is right into flyfishing, (like me), but goes to Kiribati, ( about 500 mile south of Hawaii), quite often lately

He catches bonefish

He noticed a guy had one mounted on his cap and captured all the action

My friend would like to try and do the same thing but was concerned about the IQ, having a D300s as his "normal" camera

There arent many devices out there with the support that gopro has for accessories that put out quality video and this SIZE

There is no doubt the gopro is used in some movies for action shots. If a camera were to be suspended from a parachute and dropped from a height, it may allow for a smoother ride on the way down. The parachute rig itself could be detached from the line via RC signal OR by simply sending up a "messenger kite" to hit a detaching mechanism at the right time. The resulting video would be pretty smooth and the cool part is it could easily be published in reverse to give a ground-to-sky journey.

Thanks

Hi Jes,

Well, I got a call yesterday, he is now having reservations about whether he will get one just yet,

Went ahead and bought a Nikon 1 AW1 for his trip to NZ flyfishing, I'm sure the quality will be a whole lot better than the GoPro

FWIW, looks like new GoPro 4 black edition out in November

Post up a video, Gary, when he has one to share.  Costco has these, in Toronto for about $350.

The Costco GoPro bundle is a good deal, that's the only reason I got a second camera, but extra batteries, charger, remote etc all add up.

I have a GoPro. The image quality is okay. Still shots aren't much better than you get from your average smartphone but they do have the novelty of being super wide angle.

Here's a link to a YouTube video I made with it shooting at the lower resolution of 960p when I was using it as a dashcam. Maybe not the best display of what it can do but it gives you an idea and it's something I have handy.

https://youtu.be/5o6gu2NI5K8

I did post process it to improve the sharpness and colour a bit.
