Found something today at the local camera store I just couldn't pass up, if for no other reason that it looks like it would be fun to use.
It's a 2x teleconverter.................................
........ with a focusing helicoid built into it:
It basically acts as an extension ring when you 'run the lens out'.
I have never seen or even known about such a critter.  Back in the 70's and 80's, I did have a 2x TC that the elements were mounted into a bayonet system so they could be removed, making the TC into a 32mm extension ring.  But I've never seen the same concept since then.  This is a close as I've ever seen.

Don't mind me..... I'm just out roaming around between Zone II and Zone IX.

I have the  Nikon mount of that teleconverter and it's better than one might suspect. I've used it with a dozen different lenses. I still prefer a dedicated macro lens but that TC works really well with the old 90mm Vivitar macro lens I have.

Remember selling those - not popular but quirky and a fun find.

I've got one sitting in my Desk.  Never really used it much, but I agree they are very neat.
