To get to the lodge, where we stayed in Alaska, you could not drive there. You had to take a bush plane, and I got to fly in a 1949 De Havilland beaver. I thought it was only fitting to give the plane a mono treatment.

Good series, Dennis.

 

Folks might be surprised to learn how many of those old work horses are still flying.  They're quite common in Vancouver Harbour, with several operators using them.  Most of the aircraft based out of Vancouver Harbour have now been upgraded to turbo prop engines.

 

If you or other aviation junkies would like to learn more, here's a link to a web site that is all about the Beaver.  It used to be called Beaver Tails, but it looks like he has renamed it.

If you have the aircraft registration number, you can enter it, and retrieve the aircraft's entire history.  He doesn't have all of the aircraft, but he has been working at it for 32 years.  Looks like the last update was earlier today.  :)
