Take a look at my website. It's heavily geared toward portfolio presentation. On the wedding gallery, there is a link to download a PDF. (http://jonhaverstick...ing-engagement/) The galleries use the next gen gallery plugin. Very easy to work with.
While Wordpress certainly started off as a blogging platform, it has evolved to a rather full-featured website builder.

I appreciate your help Jon. I am just a bit confused by Wordpress, call me simple but... when I go to their site and sign up for a site I find I am faced with no other option than creating a Blog?. Where am I going wrong? Are there pre-set templates for instant sites?

Thanks
Paul
No worries, Paul. There are lots of free templates for the free Wordpress sites. As for creating a blog vs. multiple pages / galleries along the lines of a full-fledged website, you would configure "pages" for new galleries (e.g., your portfolio), contact, about, etc. If you want to blog, you would create new "posts" on the blog "page".
