Thom Hogan's newest blog.  If you're thinking about ordering a D850, or have already done so, here's some good info for you:

I saw it. It was interesting to see him, in a way, validate my choice. Going with the D500, 16-80, 35 1.8, 300 PF and TC. I'll keep up with the blog because it will be interesting and some will probably be relevant to the D500.

Thanks, Mark.

A good read, although I disagree with some of the assessments, inclusions and exclusions he makes.  But, what do I know!

Thanks for the link, worth reading.

Thom is certainly opinionated.  He has some good thoughts when he is not on a rant.

I think he's overly conservative on some of the lens recommendations.  For example, he's hesitant to recommend the 70-200 f/2.8 VR II because it's a little soft at f/2.8.  But that's always been the case - on the D800 and the D810.  It sharpens up nicely at f/3.5 - f/4.  Likewise the 200-400 fills a different role than the 200-500 - and for me a stop of light is still important.  The D850 may be able to resolve some softness at 100%, but at normal viewing or printing levels the lenses will be fine.

Good info mark thanks for posting.

That is one thing I was wondering is how many lens will not perform as well on the D850 as they did on the D750/600 and to a lessor extent the D800 series. Now the choice between the D500 and D850 is not hard for me because  If I had $3500 to spend I would get the D500 16-80 2.8-4 kit leaving me another 1200$ to spend on lens but again that is more about my budgetary constraints vs other factors, but the D500 is a very cool, top of the line and trouble free.
