Great lens, one of my first purchases.  I don't use it too often now, but I really like the lens.  Delivers good, solid images.  For the money, I think it is good value.

Don't own it now (obviously) but it was always one of my favourite lenses. Great value, good optics, nice fast AF and superb VR, served me well.

I bought mine when it very first came out and Tamron hadn't been allowed to release it under their own brand.

Always thought that when the Tamron version came out they where very close and I had heard rumors that it was a Tamron made lens.

Not sure on the 28-200mm but the 70-300mm is definitely a Nikon/Tamron get together. Don't have an issue with that mine you, if Nikon are helping design lenses and then has Tamron ultimately make them to keep the cost down its good for us as buyers. I'd guess a few of the mid-range lenses are Tamron made as they're all similar in spec, build, price etc. The cheaper stuff almost certainly comes out of the Cosina factory who make all sorts of stuff for dozens of brands.

Haven't used mine since Big Tammy came into my life.  When I get another body I will let Deb use it when we are chasing eagles.

How does the 28-300mm compare to the 70-300mm.

The 70-300 was sharper at 300 but the difference is not that great. From 70-200 or so no difference that I could tell.

That's the lens I was comparing to Charles. But of coarse the 28-300 is way more versatile.

I have one. It's not a bad lens and it's a lot better than the old 70-300 with the screw drive. It doesn't seem such good purchase now that there's the 28-300 though.

Going to put mine on the D7100 to see how it work with the 24.2 sensor.
