Sooo, I was shooting a steam engine/ hit and miss  show. I pushed a button and camera would not operate, it wouldn't fire. I was using two D5 cameras and I was working hard looking for photos. I pushed button again and it worked that time. 

Well, when I took a break I noticed...the vertical release button had the locking ring turned just enough to make intermittent firing. Its not supposed to do that.

The grip on my D850 does that.

The lock ring had moved just enough to get me. When you are in hunt mode, the camera is used to grab what your eyes are seeing. 

Yes the D5 is a Nikon product.

Sorry, I had to say that. I use a Black Rapid double, so cameras rub on my sides if I am not holding them. That is the cause.
