I was BBQ'ing ribs for dinner and the back yard came alive with Sparrows at the bird bath.  The light was perfect.  I love the evening light, it is so warm and amazing.

Grabbed my:

Nikon 1 J4

Nikon FT-1

Nikon 300mm f4 D

Tripod

780mm of reach.  Wow!

And, went to town.

Set it on 20 FPS and shot about 100 images.  I keep forgetting how much I love this camera and HATE IT!  At some point, I need to upgrade to a V3 and get the EVF.  The LCD screen and action shots just don't work.

But still, WHAT AN AMAZING CAMERA!!!  I can do 60 FPS with this!  Just simply AMAZING.

Had so many good images I just grabbed what looked like the best..... so many to pick from..... Enjoy!

Amazing clarity and depth of field!

I am continuously blown away by this camera.

The lens is a standard 300m FF, lens.  Who would have guessed.  I took a gamble to try it, figured for $200 (J1), I could pass the camera on to my wife.  I quickly upgraded to the J4 after I saw the results.  If I can get a deal on a V3, with EVF, I will jump in with both feet.

Without the EVF, it is extremely difficult to do any other type of shot, like BiF, for example, or sports or races etc.  It is next to impossible to hand hold and shoot using the LCD display.

I am a HUGE fan of this system, not for its intended use, although they are excellent for that, but for being able to put some Nikon big glass on it and get these results.  Turning a 300mm into a 780mm and no real negative for doing it... well, that is simple astonishing!  Beats paying $20K!!

They almost look like a Point and Shoot type camera, I'll have to pick up a used one some time.

Thanks, Mike. I have a feeder and a bird bath and over time, they have made it a stop. This was purposely done so I could have ready subjects.

I am still studying the light, best angles etc and collecting perches. Basically an ongoing project.

There are an excellent variety of birds in the neighbourhood, Also working on the right feed to bring in the ones I want.
