Last sunday was the 100th anniversary of the armistice of the first world war, a conflict of great significance to New Zealand... we lost 16,697 killed and 41,317 wounded... +1000 who died later.... out of a total population of just over one million.. virtually every family lost some members. I attended a small ceremony on Witch Hill where a memorial in the form of a seat was built in 1917. Witch Hill is a small peak on the 'port hills' above Christchurch.. about 1400 feet (421m)... it involved a bit of a climb from a carpark at the top of Rapaki track. Here are a few photos I took of the event.

Nice series Peter. New Zealand is on my bucket list to visit. I wish I could have made it there while I was stationed in Australia, but I didn’t make it there except to change planes in Christchurch once. Jeff

Peter, I don't know how I initially overlooked this thread. I just saw it and was deeply touched by its poignancy, especially the image of the lone piper overlooking the valley. Good stuff. Thanks for posting.
