I am not overly concerned about what any of our mods, or readers provide links to, within reason.

Of course, I would not want any porn links, or nudity without warning. I am trying to keep this a family usable forum. I have a lot of kids, and I would be in trouble quickly if they found nudies on my site. Look at this forum as a PG rated place. No R, or XXX links or images please. But, the human form is beautiful, and if not erotically presented is a great subject for this site. Use the excellent images made by Luis V in the Portrait forum as an example of good taste and PG rated work.

The way I look at links is that as long as they provide good information, it is a good idea. That makes this site a reference library of sorts, doesn't it! I always wondered why so many forums freak out when someone links out to another forum or website. Isn't the Internet what Hypertext links are all about?

If you liked something, and feel it helped you, provide a link so I can read it too! Just be sure my nine-year-old can link to it also without running to mama for comfort afterward.
Best regards,
Darrell Young (Digital Darrell)

The way I see it, if we can mention that rascal Ken Rockwell (who I enjoy reading) then we have a pretty good idea of what is acceptable and what is not. Good taste. Good fun. Good forum...

I always look at it as if people can't come here and find the links wanted they will go somewhere else that does provide them. Therefore far better to keep everybody coming here first and hopefully eventually joining and participating. We all surf the net for our information, so why do some sites think people do not try the others as well? I found this site originally by putting "Nikon chat sites", or something similar, into my search engine, which turned up all the other Nikon sites as well. The only way you keep members is to give them what they want. If we are not good enough they will go elsewhere anyway. I expect most of our Moderators post on other sites, I think Darrell does as well? So it would be stupid to expect others not to do so. I managed to get a link on another photographic site back to this one. They approved it and did not think it competed with them seeing as they were macrophotography based, so covered all other makes of cameras as well. They had links to Canon's sites on theirs, so why not Nikon as well I thought! Perhaps we need a page of approved links to other complementary information sites also? Dave Whiteley

I think this forum is much friendlier than dpreview as there are a lot of people there that think that they know everythng, and maybe they do know a lot, then when someone asks a basic question they either don't reply at all or they post very nasty comments. I think that is uncalled for as the only way for a beginner to learn is to ask questions and get help from the more experienced members. That is not to say that most of the members do help others, it's just that a few of them crawl out of the woodwork once in awhile and ruin the experience for others. My two cents. Bruce

That's what used to annoy me about some sites. Somebody would post a question and
nobody would even trouble to reply. I always thought it was the job of the Moderators to
answer any so far unanswered questions, even if it is only to say they do not know
either, but will try and find out.

It must be very disheartening for a beginner, nervously posting their first question on a site
they have just joined, to be completely ignored. And in any case it is not very good
manners for the Moderators on a site to leave any question unacknowledged.

I agree, as a mod I always to answer in some way. Plus I always try to welcome new members on their first post. Part of what helps new members become active members is how they are treated on their first few posts. From what I have seen here is we all try very hard to make new members feel welcome. This also helps lurkers turn into posting members. Jim

I will say that so far this site is one of the better ones with lay out and the people. Coming from ENG and pro event video where all you had to worry about was white balance, focus and iris on the fly this is a whole new ball game. One which I am enjoying thoroughly and has been made that much better with the members here answering my noob questions.

Darrell, I appreciate your stance on "keeping it clean". Yes, the human body is beautiful, but unfortunately, there are those who would start using PN for "evil deeds". The ocean pier I fish on has a webcam, and when I go to it check the fishing or surfing, someone has the webcam looking almost straight down scoping out ladies in bikinis, or even zoomed in on their bikini bottoms, in effect, changing the pier cam into a "perve" cam.
