Hmmmm, seems like every day Apple is updating iOS whatever, macOS?

I miss Steve Jobs...he would have this under control...once every 18 months.

After this "Black Screen Of Death" issue with my MacBook Pro, gonna wait before updating unless it is a security issue.

Thoughts?

And again a leak has been discovered...

Apple is scrambling to sort it out!

I absolutely abhor updates because inevitably, it kills something somewhere in older software you are using.

I went to High Sierra....

NIK is history

Thumbnail icons on any and all NEF files transferred from my D850 to my hard drive are just a blank generic text icon, no images

Filemaker Pro v13 (a staple for database  development work I do) .... dead, finished.... have to upgrade to the latest.

Yea, I am a huge fan of updating.

But, if you want to stay safe... you have to update, unfortunately.  Or, don't surf the internet.

Yes, unfortunately. I agree Art.

I was a beta tester on Commodore Amiga, Microsoft and Linux mochines. Was asked to be a beta tester on Apple iOS for several developers.....but turned them down...my system are used for photo/video/DJ work.

Art, really?  I upgraded to High Sierra several weeks ago, realizing that there was a high probability that Nik would die.  To my pleasant surprise, Color Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro are working quite well.  Update:  just tried the rest of the package in LR.  All good.  :)

Oh yea!

Can you run stand alone?

When I go to save... CRASH.  Reboot, try again... CRASH!  Very disappointing.

I have the iMac Retina 5K 27"

What are you running?

Actually, I was thinking... wonderful service from Apple and I fully agree with Art... keep everything up to-date at all times but if systems are crashing because of it, well... my sympathies!

I have the Adobe plug-ins.  That might be the difference.

Like you, running a iMac 27" Retina.  :)

I'm running a 5k iMac and updated to HS about an hour after it went live.

Nik is running perfectly in both Lightroom and Photoshop...as is all my other software but I do appreciate that some old apps can go out of date which will require an update.

Uh oh. This is starting to sound like a thread about Windows <_<
Don
==========================================================
Digital: D610 backed up by a D1x.  Quoted from an unknown source by a fellow planeteer, "Never get rid of a working D1x." I've got to agree.

Film: N90s, F3, F100, F4s, C330s. A few lenses.

Why film photography? I like shooting with the equipment. 6x6 Velvia slides from a C330 have an appeal all their own.

Why automated 35mm/Digital cameras? Event photography is about capturing moments. It often requires quick response. Well done automaton can be your friend or your enemy. It all depends on knowing what it can and can't do. "A man's got to know his (camera's) limitations." paraphrasing Dirty Harry...

I guess Im influenced by my profession but Im liking frequent updates especially when security bugs are found. While I understand the association with patch Tuesday and Microsoft I would be more concerned with not having updates for the sake of appearing stable.
