I have to say, that I honestly believe this Beer turned America to Crime!  If you had to drink this during Prohibition, you would surely turn to churning out bootleg beer or worse.

I purchased this with the hope it would be a plausible alternative when drinking alcohol wasn't an option.  I have to admit, there were those who questioned my manhood and shamed me publicly (I won't mention names .... DENNIS SMITH), but I was not ashamed to say I tried it.

And, I feel I owe you all a fair warning ... SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Wow, this is one AWFUL beer.  Maybe, if I mix it with something or almost freeze it, it will taste better.  I promise, I will keep you posted!

The one good thing about this fluid in a can .... hey, makes a nice image, doesn't it!!  I didn't have to do much, the can is black and white, except for the RED!

Talk about a tough item to photograph with almost no glare on the can!!

Challenge..... I would like to see a similar image of a Canned Product from some of you guys with more skills than me, with no glare!

CHEERS!!

How can they call it beer when there is no Alcohol ?

How can they call it beer when there is no Alcohol ?

Funny you should ask that, Charles.  Inquiring minds need to know!

Beer
[beer]

noun

1
:  an alcoholic beverage usually made from malted cereal grain (as barley), flavored with hops, and brewed by slow fermentation

2
:  a carbonated nonalcoholic or a fermented slightly alcoholic beverage with flavoring from roots or other plant parts

So, #2, fermented slightly alcoholic beverage .... fits the tab!!

This crud has 0.00% alcohol and it still qualifies it as .... BEER!

I have another brand I buy occasionally made by MOSLENS.  It has 0.05% Alcohol, but tastes a little more like beer, not like this Bud.

Art, you're on, even if I don't have a soft box.  I bought a Godox LED170 from my LCS on Monday, and Angela has banned me from going there until we get back from our holidays  ;)   I'll just use a different subject for my weekend shoot.

Budweiser has something in common with Olympia Beer:  It's the water and nothing else!    Oddly enough, I came away from my March trip to Indianapolis with a very favourable opinion of American craft beer.  Some of the local brew pubs are coming up with some really good selections.

Charles, it's ironic that you quote Don Giannatti.  I bought his Tabletop Product Photography course from Creative Live.  He's good!  :)

I don't think it is called beer they use the word Brew over and over again! Even the small print says Brew so they don't use the word beer.

Here in the US that has to be on even non alcoholic beer its the ETOH by content label that is required by the ATTB or TTB or Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and I am sure Canada has something similar.

From what you're telling us Art, they might be better off with a label that says:  "Excessive consumption may lead to permanent damage to your taste buds".

Actually just the Alcohol by volume is required by the TTB or ATTB(Alcohol, Tobacco and Tax bureau)  never sure what they are but its about tax collection on alcohol. The label you are showing is more like a FDA requirement in the US and not all beer has that yet but they are talking about it.

Every bottle of alcohol sold in Canada is stamped with the alcohol volume. Typical non alcoholic beer sold here is half of one percent!

.05%

The Bud you see is ZERO percent. The first I have seen at 0%.

Typical (for me) beer.... 5%

You cannot drink this stuff warm.  I find, in order for it to pass as just bad beer, it has to be chilled close to freezing.  I put this stuff in the freezer until it has a think amount of ice, then open it.

My method...

I have a large, thick, heavy duty beer mug

I put a 1/2" of water in the bottom

I put the can in the beer mug to save space in the freezer

I put them in the freezer and check the 1/2" of water

When it looks like it is started to freeze, I take it out and pour into the frosty glass, ice included at bottom.

Drinkable!

..... the mug

I mean, I have to watch calories and so forth. But one good beer makes a long impression. 🍻

Thanks, Dennis.

Why drink?

Drinking and Driving here is seriously bad!! I don't do it. Not one.

But, I LOVE BEER!

So, when I can't drink, I need something suitable. I saw this in the store and thought it would be good....joke was on me.

One of these is better than a Diet Pepsi!

Pauline (Mrs W) is not allowed to drink any alcohol Art... so we have looked out for alcohol free drinks for her... quite a pleasant German beer available here (although hard to find sometimes) is Clausthaler (well she thinks it is ok)... and there are a few alcohol free wines... white and red to be had. I found this article about alcohol free beers which might help... https://www.theguard...est-supermarket   ...unfortunately not generally available in bars... the drink drive limits are always tightening up, you can't be too careful these days... thats why I travel by bus on such important occasions :D ... or get my alcohol free driver to do the honours  B)

Thanks, Peter, I have never seen any of those brands sold here.

This is the poison of choice when you have no choice!

Again, served close to sub-zero temp makes it drinkable.

I really debated whether to post this as a separate post; or attach it to this thread.  I finally decided to attach it here because Art's creativity inspired me.  Honest, there is no other reason why I would spend just over a week, photographing empty beer cans.

Plus, Angela really likes this; and a cold one of these on a hot summer day isn't bad at all.  Have you tried it at all, Art?

I also decided to post a "creative" reply to Art because this can is nice and shiny.  I threw everything but the kitchen sink at this:  home-made scrims, foam core reflectors; a Savage Light Box that I wouldn't recommend to my friends; and a Westcott Rapid Box 26 Octa.  I used overhead scrims and light boxes; side mounted speed-lights behind scrims and a bunch more.

These are the two that I liked the most.  For the first one, I used the Westcott overhead, with white foam core reflector on each side.

I really liked the fact that there were no speculars or hot spots.  The problem is that you don't have to look very hard to see that the reflectors show on the side of the can.  Oops!

For the second shot, I got rid of the foam core reflectors; changed to a white base; and moved the Westcott to face the can from above.

I used an adjustment brush in LR, to increase exposure on the can.  Also used PS to get rid of one small hot spot.

While I have learned a lot along the way, I also learned that there is more to learn.  More important, I learned that I'm hooked on doing this stuff.  I had an absolute blast.  The learning has just started.   :D

So with that in mind, comments and suggestions are strongly encouraged.  And, Art?  Sorry for kinda of hijacking your thread.  Uh, not really.   ;)   You really did inspire me to take the plunge on this.  B)

Thanks for looking everyone.  :)

p.s.  If you haven't tried this, it really isn't half-bad.
