Was going to get a 2nd battery for it when l got it 5 years ago, but never got around to it. A new EN-EL9a from B&H is $50, so l found a new EN-EL9 on Ebay for $10. lt may be new old stock or a Chinese knock off, but l really don't care. l don't take the D40 on any serious outings. Really don't need a 2nd battery, but the original has short life between charges now.
Finally ordered 2nd battery for D40.

Bill, I'm still using my D50 from time to time. Uses the same batteries as in my D300.
Gives me much pleasure especially when used in combination with my 24mm f/1.4G lens.

Well, it was a no go. The battery has a bulge in it and will not fit in thee camera. l emailed the seller and they gave me a refund and told me l don't have to send it back. Seller said it was new old stock. Think l'll look for a EN-EL9A because they're not as old as the EN-EL9.

Found a new EN-EL9A on Ebay for 20 bucks. Charged it up and used it in the camera. Everything iss good. After owning the D40 for 5 years, l finally have 2 batteries for it. The original is getting weak, so l'll say 1.5 batteries.
