I took a ride up to the Sierra Foothills Saturday about 36 miles SE of where I live near Sacramento, CA to a former Gold Town named Sutter Creek. The Gold Country has always been one of my favorites places to visit and work on Landscape Photography and Window Shots through the front windows of the many Antique Stores that dot the Highway 49 in N. CA.

This is a shot of Sutter Creek in the town of Sutter Creek. The rain had just subsided so I bolted across the street to catch a few frames before the next rain squall arrived. When we have a good rainfall season, the Steelhead travel up from the Mokelumne River in the Sacramento Valley to Sutter Creek and work their way to the gravel beds where they spawn. As can be seen, the weeds had been washed over previously when the creek was about twice the width from a large storm several days before.

Enjoy, Don

Great shot Don. Wasn’t Sutter Creek where the gold rush started, or am I thinking of something else? Jeff

Jeff:

Thanks for stopping by and your remarks.

Gold was discovered by James Marshall in 1848 at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, CA. on the South fork of the American River. If you paste these coordinates into Google Maps ( 38.801386, -120.891068 ) you will arrive at the location where the first California Gold was discovered.
