Q&A time...  Some of you may be wondering where I get my routes from. Well, first of all I obtain my navigational charts (AIRACS) from a Swedish company called, "Navigraph".  Website: www.navigraph.com  The charts are constantly updated but I permanently use AIRAC 1908.

 

The above is the basic requirement for planning purposes. Next, is the actual route planning which is obtained via the website: http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/  i.e. EHAM (Amsterdam) to EDDF (Frankfurt)

The resulting route is then copy / pasted into an ATC application called, "Pro-ATC/X". See product website: www.pointsoftware.de  The derived codes are then "translated" into a definite route and simultaneously processed for verbal ATC instructions from beginning to end of the flight.

 

Actual "realtime" flight information is obtained via www.flightaware.com (less flights are currently shown due to the horrid COVID-19 situation) The aircraft type is also indicated and this influences my aircraft choice between destinations.

In principle flight altitudes from East to West are always even i.e. 34,000ft (FL340) and West to East i.e. 35,000ft (FL350)

Why does it always have to rain in Scotland?

 

Did a Lufthansa Airbus A321 flight from Frankfurt (EDDN), Germany to Edinburgh (EGPH), Scotland, UK.

Under non-Covid19 conditions the flight number is DLH964. Flight time a little more than 1.5 hours.

Let's fly and... let it rain, let it rain...

Atlantic Airways flight Denmark to Faroer Islands

 

My flight today is based on an actual scheduled service between the city of Billund, Denmark and Vagar, Faroer Islands utilising an Airbus A320.  As the Faroer Islands are administered by Denmark, it is actually regarded as a "domestic" flight.

Our flightpath takes us in a north-westerly direction, first heading north towards the Norwegian coastline and then south of Stavanger we head out away from the coast over the Atlantic.

The weather is fair with an abundance of clouds and haziness. Flight time approximately 1 hour, 40 minutes.

Fasten your seatbelts and let's take to the air...
