Seems like they added basic editing back to view NX.
If it's like the old ViewNX editing it will be very basic but fairly good. This would make more sense than View NX-D for basic stuff and focus points etc. Will download after work tonight.

I upgraded to View NX-I, nice! Crisp new looking interface. I like it. Clean looking, nice colors on the screen. Well worth downloading and staying current. You have to download NX-D with it!! 
Just another thing to do... DELETE!

NO, they DID NOT!!! 
Spoke too soon, should NEVER have UPDATED.
My work flow includes MARKING/RATING the images. I use a number and star system based on composition and sharpness.
VIEW NX-I IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH..... CAPTURE NX-2
Capture NX-2 will NOT read the rating system from the UPGRADED program.
I could use a few choice words right now, but I will just bite my lip. I am really PISSED!
How on gods green earth could they screw this simple, basic rudimentary thing up!!!!
WOW, I thought that garbage they call software might see it? IT TOO had issues with the ratings!
GREAT. What a disappointment for me.

I can understand that Art NX2 is dead software. Nik bailed sold out to google so NX2 is done. If you ever buy a new Nikon NX2 won't be able to read it.
My thoughts on ViewNX-I is it's good for LR users to see Nikon info.

My bet is Nik/Google have locked Nikon out of anything that was NX2 technology thus the reason they won't even update for new cameras.
Sucks yes I was a huge fan of NX2 but moved to Lightroom due to the issues of dealing with dead or orphaned software.
I knew the moment Google bought Nik that NX2 was finished as was anything that was associated with NX2. There will be a time when you update your OS and NX2 will not even function sadly.

I love NX2 and use it as first point editing which I then finish in Photoshop. I'll miss it when I can't use it anymore.
I only use ViewNX for a viewer and only occasional use for converting RAW to .jpg
