Yes, the cub is close. Yes, he is a wild bear. Yes mom is 5 feet from me on my right side. To close for the lens to focus on. I think he likes salt water. I'm hand holding the 200-500 on the D4 squatting down to get a better angle for the shot. I didn't see mom move in. And there I was.

Dennis, that is a double "Wow".  The first "wow" goes to you because that is an outstanding image.  However, the second "wow" goes to the bear for his reaction to seeing you.  He is wondering what spices go well with "photographer".  :D   :D

Way too close for both you and the bear.

The bears where the ones that came to us. We have a guild and he said, we are ok, just don't make loud noises. It was surreal, They didn't have a concern. Mom just walked the cubs around us, and kept walking. They didn't even grunt. Mom just kept walking and grasing. This pic was shot at 500mm, and the cub had to be about 10 - 15 ft away for the lens to be able to focus. About 7ft is the limit. I have this shot and another shot with the cub filling the frame. I'll need to go dig that one out. I think it's a bit soft.

Thanks, Dennis.
