I was at NPS today to pick up the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR lens.  WOW. What a pleasant surprise this lens is!

It is extremely light, but has a very solid feel. It is also extremely fast focusing and very, very sharp.  I am really impressed.  Especially the weight! I never took this lens seriously because I thought it was over priced, but it really performs.

Judge for yourself!

All images shot at the same settings.  I just fired off a burst of about 100 images because this little bugger is a fast moving, nasty little thing.  He never stops! But, he is adorable to photograph.

Enjoy.

Nice.

I hear one issue is when the sun will be in the frame. The frencel add some strange stuff. But, I would expect that Nikon would have fixed, or minimused that in lens firmware distortion control. Do you have a 1x, and can you try it with one?

Thanks, Dennis.

Very nice shots, Art.  Colours and sharpness are outstanding.

Alas, I will have to stick with my 200-500 until I rob a bank or find more clients.

These are exceptional Art. They really look good against that dark green background. I'm impressed with that lens.
