Train trip to Greymouth

15 August 2019 - 04:20 AM

Last week I jioned a group from the Travel Section of the New Brighton Club on a train trip to Greymouth and Hokitika... a night in Greymouth then back home to Christchurch the next day... here are a few of the 300 odd photos :D... a lot of them taken from the 'observation' car... a bit breezy and cool in the mountains but clear views...

Flowers.... roses apparently :-)

19 January 2019 - 04:34 PM

This shot I took at a 90th birthday party... I was sitting at the table having finished eating when I spotted this photo... a rose bush. It seems to have gathered a lot of 'likes' on FB.

A visit to Orana wildlife park... warning image heavy.

07 December 2018 - 05:15 PM

Yesterday (friday 7th) I joined a group of photographers at Orana park for a Nikon NZ sponsored event... there were bodies and lenses to borrow... I was hoping to play with a 500pf... or 300pf.. but they were already borrowed by the time the queue got to me ... so I had to resort to my own 200-500  ... here are some of my photos... cropped and fiddled with.. compared to the samples on FB ( which were only the 2mp versions bluetoothed to my phone)

We will remember them.

13 November 2018 - 05:36 PM

Last sunday was the 100th anniversary of the armistice of the first world war, a conflict of great significance to New Zealand... we lost 16,697 killed and 41,317 wounded... +1000 who died later.... out of a total population of just over one million.. virtually every family lost some members. I attended a small ceremony on Witch Hill where a memorial in the form of a seat was built in 1917. Witch Hill is a small peak on the 'port hills' above Christchurch.. about 1400 feet (421m)... it involved a bit of a climb from a carpark at the top of Rapaki track. Here are a few photos I took of the event.

Z7, 24-70S f4. All pics have GPS info. and if you are keen a rough video of the event  https://youtu.be/gDVy6iMwlZw  I need to carry my external microphone a bit more often... the wind noise is a problem.

Two Z's are better than one .

05 October 2018 - 08:51 PM

I was hunting for my other EN-EL14 charger today ..since the one I regularly use went with the Df...I thought I would have a play with my old P7000.. and came across a long forgotten Fujifilm camera.... and lo and behold it turns out to be another Z...7 even..well Z700 :P :D so now I have two Z...7s.
