Nice shot, Cliff.

Don't get me wrong.  I like geese.  However, their behaviour in our area suggests that they are great eating and pooping machines.  When we go to our local park, I always have to look out for the goose bombs.  :o

Same issue in Cleveland. They're starting to come to SoCal too. We hardly ever saw them here years ago, but now I've see them twice in a couple of weeks.

I like the first better hands-down. Just the right mix. The shadows don't bother me at all. They lend drama.

In Topic: I love my new SSD

08 April 2018 - 01:38 PM

In December 2017, I had the first of two read errors on my Dell laptop.  The original drive was a 1TB HDD, and I had read a couple of articles and blogs about possibly going to SSD.  When I had the second error in January, I went to Best Buy, bought a Samsung 1TB SSD; coming with it was the cloning software for my HDD.  In just over an hour, the swap out was done, and not a single MB was lost (I compared the capacity of the "C" drive before and after the swap).

The program call and response times are improved hugely, and the boot-up time on Win 10 went from around 30 seconds, to around 6-7 seconds.  Even internet speeds have improved.

The SSD is not a panacea, and has risks that HDD's don't have, but the performance is now outstanding.

It's also more resistant to machine movement.  I had a laptop slip off my lap a few years back -- it didn't hit the floor, but the sudden movement caused a head crash.  CHKDSK found a ton of errors.  SSD was still expensive and scarce then, so I replaced it with a 500GB conventional drive and updated to Windows 10.  If I had the same issue today, I'd use SSD for sure.  Both our Mac laptops have SSD and we love them.  We do, however, back up to a conventional drive.

There was a guy in Cleveland who once said that "we have three seasons in Ohio, January, February, and Orange Barrels." Another called Interstate 480 "Barrel Boulevard."

I feel your pain...
