How old is the cathedral?  Wasn't it bombed during WW II?  :)

More memories Herman...I have similar photos from our 2012 river cruise..the cathedral had scaffolding on it then :) still a magnificent building though.

How old is the cathedral?  Wasn't it bombed during WW II?  :)

 

Thanks, Mark. Construction of Cologne Cathedral began in 1248. The cathedral suffered fourteen hits by aerial bombs during World War II. Badly damaged, it nevertheless remained standing in an otherwise completely flattened city. The twin spires were an easily recognizable navigational landmark for Allied aircraft bombing.

Peter, standing in front of the cathedral it still had scaffolding on the left spiral. Guess its a lonnnggg term project!
