Topics I've Started

22 August 2019 - 11:48 PM

The assignment was to produce a hero header image for an e-commerce venture that specialized in luxury fashion accessories.  Because they used white backgrounds all of the time, they specifically didn't want a plain background.  Because this was a header, they also wanted a 16 x 7 aspect ratio.

I decided to shoot down, mounting a Godox SK-300 strobe and soft box on a light boom.  Then I used super clamps, to hold a 5-in-1 diffuser in between the product and the light box.

I got the background by using a studio gray backdrop.  To get the background colour, I placed a Yongnuo speed light on a miniature tripod about 3 ft from the backdrop.  I taped a Strobist gel to the speed light head, then taped a small piece of parchment paper in front of that.

EXIF data:

  • 24-70/f2.8 @ 46mm
  • 1/125 sec
  • f16

My instructor loved the shot.  The only suggested change was to use one of the Nik plug-ins to very slightly brighten the stones on the brooch.  He was very satisfied with the revised version.

Thanks for looking, everyone.  :)

Nikon Rumours - Only 1000 Nikkor 500mm PF/5.6 Lenses per month

Ever since this lens was introduced, I've heard numerous complaints (both here and other sites) about it being in short supply.  This may explain things a bit:

Nikon Rumours - The Chernobyl Experience

Nikon Rumours has a guest post by a gent who visited Chernobyl and surrounding area, last Fall.  Nice story about the city itself, and the Ukraine in general.  :)

Nikon Rumours - Tiananmen Square 30 Years Ago with the Nikon F-801

14 July 2019 - 12:00 PM

A bit unusual, for a site that's devoted to Nikon cameras, but there is a Nikon connection.

Nikon Rumours - A visit to the Nikon Tochigi factory

06 July 2019 - 12:45 PM

Nikon Rumours has a link to an interesting article.

Fortunately, he's included images and a very nice summary because the original article is in French.  Unless you read French or have Google translate, you're out of luck.
