How about a new way to display.  I get foam board displays from work, they are sturdier that the normal stuff you buy.  I use them to mount pictures on, so I tried a new process, made a montage image of piping plovers, printed two copies, mounted one intact.  I then cut two birds from the other, mounted them and carefully aligned them over their position on the first print.

I'm always looking for different ways to display my work.

This one was done totally in PSCC with layers

I was going to post this as something else, but it is NEW, so here goes....

I purchased 5 LED Studio lights.... from AMAZON.

These are the lights:

Attached File  Light.jpg   65.61KB   0 downloads

Only 4 fit the fixture.  If you buy one, I recommend the 4 socket.  The lights are too big for 5 to fit.  I put a much smaller LED light in the 5th socket.

Here is the fixture:

Attached File  socket.jpg   112.27KB   0 downloads

Here is the fixture in an umbrella.... have to buy a bigger umbrella or light box.

Attached File  5-Lights.jpg   253.25KB   0 downloads

Here is a quick sample of the new lighting:

Attached File  Santa-Tin.jpg   211.54KB   0 downloads

I used my light meter to read the light and got this:

200ISO

1/60s

f2.8

Not bad!! Only took ONE shot to get this image.  Not perfect, but I plan to perfect using this continuous light.  You can turn on, 1, 2, 3, 4 or all 5 lights to meet your needs.  I just need to figure out this setup to put it to best use.

Cost: about $100 for 5 lights and the socket.  Bought them from AMAZON.ca

I was going to tell Art that this was all his fault, but that wouldn't be at all fair.  I've wanted a carbon fibre tripod for years, but they were always too expensive.  When I saw Art's post about his new tripod, I realized that quality, affordable carbon fibre tripods are available.

I was seriously impressed by the tripod that Art bought; and I was very pleased with my mail order experience with Henry's.  However, I like to give local business a boost when I can, so I stopped by my favourite LCS, for some comparison shopping.  I was pleasantly surprised when the manager showed me this:

Attached File  New-2.jpg   253.08KB   0 downloads

A Giottos Silk Road YTL8384 tripod.  It's slightly more expensive than Art's tripod.  Also, it can't be taken apart; or converted to a monopod.  Beyond those limits, the functionality is the same.

Attached File  New-1.jpg   323.63KB   0 downloads

Attached File  New-3.jpg   182.48KB   0 downloads

The centre column can be reversed, but I'm not sure why users would want to do that when they can do this.

Attached File  New-4.jpg   244.36KB   0 downloads

But my LCS manager helped me make my decision without realizing it.  Like the Cameron Tripod, this has a 5 year warranty.  However, the magic words were:  "Mark, if you have any problems, just bring it to the store, during the warranty".  As much as I'm impressed with Henrys, I'm pretty sure that I would be paying for shipping and that goes with that.

I'm really looking forward to playing with this tomorrow, when we get more snow.  :)

Westcott makes nice stuff.  I will be looking for nicer quality on my next purchase!  Not because I am disappointed with the stuff I have, just because I want something a little more durable with the lights I just posted. The lights are expensive and I don't want to damage them fiddling with a cheaper box.

Westcott will very likely be the brand!

OK New Snow for Memphis its our first of the year and it just started about 20 minutes ago so it really is new.

The first two where taken with my Oly EM-5 and the 17 f2.8 hand held around 1/15 of a second at ISO 1600. Not to leave my Nikon out the second two where taken with my Nikon P900 using the night scene mode it too picked between 1/13 and 1/15 at ISO 1600 but since its JPEG only the P900 really laid the NR on even though I have it set to low.

All PP in LR with some tweeking in Nik Filters.

Brain flatus....

The LED is the CENTER light you don't see.  It is a long tubular thing.  I will find a pic.

The four outside BIG lights are those Fancy Gas lights as you suggest.  Thanks for correcting me.

Found it.

Similar to these!

http://www.dx.com/p/...13#.WHBnwLGZNR4

These are ok, just don't cast enough light.  Great for the night tables, will most likely end up there.

Cool Art we changed years ago to fluorescent lights they last forever we have some that are 7 years old. When they die my wife has been replacing them with LED lights hope they last as long. :P

Brain flatus....

The LED is the CENTER light you don't see.  It is a long tubular thing.  I will find a pic.

The four outside BIG lights are those Fancy Gas lights as you suggest.  Thanks for correcting me.

Found it.

Similar to these!

These are ok, just don't cast enough light.  Great for the night tables, will most likely end up there.

Art, are the four outside lights those mercury lights?  I saw one set that included the head and the lights.  Because I thought that the lights were mercury, I shied away from it.

I'm in the process of modifying my bag and trying to travel light. The Lowepro Sling III has a padded "box", but the D7100 and lens is too tight a fit and it's bulky. So I glued some 4 inch wide velcro on each side inside the bag and used a divider from another bag. I can carry the D7100 with Tamron 16-300 mounted, my phone, and the Tokina 12-24(it has a Nikon front cap). The Tiffen filter holder hangs on the strap and it holds 4 filters up to 82mm. Can't wait to try this setup on my next outing.

Art, fluorescent works for me.  I asked about it because the bulbs look similar to ones that use Mercury.  Not a big fan of those.  Going to have to wait, though.  At the rate that I've been toy shopping, I'm going to have to go back to work, just to pay for everything.

Nice modification, Bill.  I'm looking forward to hearing about how it works because I have the same bag.

That said, it served me very well during last summer's road trip across Western Canada.  :)

My 46-52mm step up adapter ring I got on Ebay came in. I glued it to my pinhole body cap. Now I can use a 52mm polarizer with it(and any other filter). I'll post results when I shoot some. Also I plan on doing pinhole photography with the IR converted D300.
