In Topic: April 2019 challenge-wide angle macro

21 April 2019 - 07:42 AM

I haven't been online much lately due to some delotid/shoulder issues that get aggravated when typing, using photoshop, etc. I haven't been able to get out much this season for shooting either. Anyways, these are some shots I took on a photo trek with my Dad for his 63rd birthday. I was experimenting with wide angle close-ups/macro and then just saw this challenge (and ignored my condition to edit and upload lol).

Nikon D3100

Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8.

Enjoy! :)

This bronze sculpted scene is located on the exterior doors of Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Toronto. The sculpture is called 'Quis ut Deus' ('Who is like God?') and was made by the Italian scupltor, Ernesto Lamagna. The concept design was based on Revelations 12:7-9.

Heilung is an experimental folk band of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. They do music based on texts of original artifacts from the Iron Age and the Viking Age. They describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". The reference to the early ages of humanity is also made by using texts from historical artefacts or historical poems as texts. The languages used are varied from German, English to Gothic, Latin and Iron Age Norwegian dialects.

As instruments items are used that may have been already available to humans in the Iron Age, such as drums, bones or spears. The female vocals of Maria Franz are ethereal, while Uwe Faust's throat singing recalls the Tibetan or Mongolian style. Christopher Juul uses a chirping whisper as vocals.

As a further stylistic device elaborately designed costumes are worn by the band members on stage. They are partly based on the "spiritual traditions of the Eurasian circumpolar peoples" or reproduce historically correct images of Viking-age clothing.

The band has no connection with modern political or religious concepts.

No need to go to the Polar Bear Capital, Churchill, Manitoba (yet)!

Lol. That's on my bucket list along with Baffin Island...

How much did the strike hurt? Just curious.

Sorry that I haven't called.  Still in a bit of a funk here and the weather has not co-operated much either.

Thankfully, I never got dinged when it went for my hand ("near misses"). The attached shot is of 6 year-old me with a boa constrictor at Gatorville in Florida.

No worries, timing has been bad for me, too. Yeah, the weather has been lousy lately (perfect for indoor/still life, though).
