Yesterday Nashville TN went from 71˚F to 32˚, Somewhere on the fast descent we had a 10 minute hard rain with lots of wind. The rain was blowing horizontally across my yard. Any way a few hours later, one of my little dogs started barking at something on the floor. It was a cave salamander. It looked kind of dried out. I put him under a glass pan cover with a saucer of water. He crawled right into the 70˚ water and I left it there all night. In the morning he was bigger, so he must have needed the hydration. The habitat info said its diet was snails. Since we ate all the snails, I put him into my crawl space.

That is a cool story Phil!  I haven't seen one like that in a long time, used to see them all the time in a little creek that ran through my grandfathers tobacco farm in Kentucky. That little stream had a lot of fossils in it and one visit would yield a tin can full of tubular, column like fossils, I believe they were crinoids.
