#257511 Self Portrait

Posted by Peter on 08 November 2018 - 12:54 PM

Nice shot Art. At work here on my monitor, lighting on your left eye and around this area is a tad darker than the other parts of your face. Not sure if this was the intention or not, but something I noticed. Kind of makes you look like you have a black eye or you just didn't get enough sleep the night before - I know that feeling :).

Great shots of your pooch. Funny how it seems that all these types of dogs think that every other living thing is a sheep.

Pearce was huge tonight.

Just saw that he is the 2018 World Series MVP. Great for him!

I liked Steve Pearce when he was in Toronto so rooting for him and his Red Sox mates to take it!

I am impressed with the Z mount.  They could have found a better name for this, but it is what it is.

Art, just think of the Z as an N turned 90 degrees!!!

#255980 Fun with older lenses on D850

Nice acquisition Eric. Reminds me of when I obtained these from a relative of the original owner.

The beauty in there is the 55mm f1.2 but I seem to prefer using the 24mm f2.8 on my D200.

#255827 What To Do with Old RAW Files?

Posted by Peter on 11 August 2018 - 09:03 AM

I use a Blu-ray disc drive and write the files to BD discs. Each disc holds about 25 GB of data (single layer) and about double that for double layer. One of the pros is that optical discs are not susceptible to head crashes like a regular HD drive. One of the cons is that the Blu-ray drives are more expensive than a standard DVD drive, but it's not like they are hundreds of dollars. I don't yet have so many files that I am lacking in HD space - I have 12 TB of extra HD drives in my main computer. So the BD discs are mainly for backup at this point in time.

#255241 A Day at the Races (Part 5) - Fly By for the National Anthem

Posted by Peter on 16 July 2018 - 04:31 PM

I wasn't expecting the fly by, was lucky they were so low.  Always love a fly by!

IMSA has had fly-bys for a few years now. Can't remember exactly when they started. The Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team (or CHAT) is based in Woodstock, Ontario.

This was at Detroit in 2014... Can't remember from where these folks originated.

#254925 Bald Eagle in my dingy.

Great shots.

1. I assume you were not in the dinghy at the same time. :)

2. A propane powered outboard motor, how cool is that!

#253911 June is signs, street signs, billboards etc

Posted by Peter on 03 June 2018 - 09:12 AM

I remembered I had taken this photo on a walkabout in Nassau during a port stop on our first cruise. There is a very rich history of sportscar racing in the Bahamas. It was a very neat old building, however the port stop was on a Saturday so, unfortunately, it was closed. One day I hope to take in one of these events - maybe on another cruise port stop.

"I don't want to get technical or anything but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution."

"You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by the speed of light ... then you energy."

Good pics :) , but, as a Chemist, I must protest... alcohol is a solvent, not a solution. A solution is a solute dissolved in a solvent    .

Great shot Art. BOs are elusive. I have seen many in flight but hardly ever see them perch.

#253469 IMSA Sportscars at Mid-Ohio

Posted by Peter on 08 May 2018 - 05:00 PM

Made the trek down to Mansfield, Ohio, site of the historical Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to see the LMP and GT sportscars of IMSA. Track is very nice, with lots of curves and elevation changes, however, there is a large amount of catch fencing, which I hate shooting through. So for general admission amateur photographers there are very few good, close shooting locations at this track. Overall it was a good couple days. I will go back, but not for a couple years maybe.

#253468 The month of May's challenge is Wildlife

Posted by Peter on 08 May 2018 - 04:33 PM

Okay, here is some wildlife. He was checking out the action at Mid-Ohio last Saturday during some of the support races. Weather was fair with overcast skies producing flat lighting. I will post some other pictures in the "Sports" thread later. Shot was taken between turns 6 and 7.
