This was an interesting setup.

I used my AD600 in an umbrella at a 45 degree oblique to me on the left- light bouncing from inside of umbrella through a diffuser

SB-910 sitting in the hotshoe of the AD600 Trigger firing at 90 degrees to the right, onto a gold reflector

SB-700 as a slave with Gary Fong  firing also at the same reflector on the right

Nikon D850 on Tripod using self timer.

I used a white, linen backdrop, that the flashes mostly blew out.  Then Capture NX-D to blow out the white further and to sharpen RAW image.

I took the saved image into NIK Silver FX and converted to BW.

Clean up in Photoshop, sized and saved.  Any and all critique welcomed.

You look like a billiard ball

My sister:

You look like a mobster

My mom:

Sweetie, can I suggest how you might look a little better?

Seriously? I have a face only a mother could live and she offering suggestions!

Nice shot Art. At work here on my monitor, lighting on your left eye and around this area is a tad darker than the other parts of your face. Not sure if this was the intention or not, but something I noticed. Kind of makes you look like you have a black eye or you just didn't get enough sleep the night before - I know that feeling :).

Art, I agree with Peter about the lighting on your left eye.  Reinforces your sister's point.  Perhaps a reflector, fill card or kicker light to camera right?

The good news is that there are no "hot" spots.

I noticed that you used an umbrella.  Does the AD600 use Bowens mounts?  If so, a softbox or stripbox might be a good future investment, allowing you more direction of light.

Personally, I think you would look great if you smiled.  That said, nice work!  :D

Funny you say that, my mother said the same thing to me today, when I had lunch with her.

I had a tumor removed from that eye ( just below it) a few years ago.  Not sure if it is related to that.  I am not sleeping well either, so could be that as well. Ongoing issue... can't see to string together more than 4-5 hours a night!

I think the lighting is fine. The solution to the eyes is photoshop. Remove (soften) those wrinkles and it will look good. You need the light fall off to have shape/dimension. Retouching is the key here.

Went to my mother's again this evening to bring her car home, to park in my driveway (we live 10 minutes apart) They are washing the condo parking facility!
