So lets see those creamy and not so creamy Bokeh shots along with those shallow DoF and isolation. Any lens, camera is acceptable.

This will be a good challenge as I haven't used the 50 1.8G and 85 1.8D in a long time.

We planted these in June and didn't start blooming until this month.  There were twice as many yesterday, but after today's wind and rain I fear they are done.

This was taken in fairly low light and hand held. I used my XE2 and the Neewer 35 f1.7 lens. Now this lens is pretty sharp but it is fully manual in every way. The shot is a tad soft but I shot it wide open at f1.7 and I still was at 1/8 of a sec and I had bumped up the ISO to 6400. PP in LR and cropped a bit with a square crop.

Manually focusing on the XE2 is really nice you have several options including peaking with different colors. But I find my favorite with the excellent EVF is the digital split image takes me back to my FM3a! :D

Today my friend Ron and I went to Flatonia Texas for the annual railfan party. We only saw 5 trains in 5 hours-not bad, but not that good either. I used the D40 with 50 1.8G for some shallow DOF. I also used a 2 stop ND filter so I could open up the aperture. Most are shot at F/2. I also used flash fill for the shots in the pavillion to balance the subject and background exposure.

1. Waiting for a train

2. Speedercar

3. Working on the speedercar

4. Relaxing between trains

5. Dogs are railfans too

I noticed right away the focus with the f1.8 lens is micro-sensitive, I need to get better at using it with a higher f stop, as far as shutter speed and ISO go..

At 1.8 your depth of field is very narrow so you have to be very precise where you want your af point to be.
