I don't know too much about stop action photography. When I saw the picture, I figured all you really need is a tripod. You don't need a fast lens, since you would be able to talk a long exposure, shutter speed doesn't really matter. And for the pictures, your lens will work, probably better than a fix lens.
But, stop action is a differant ball game.
Photography: 100 percent art, 100 percent technical. It takes a photographer to blend them into an image.
Film: That tangible image that you can see and hold.
