Cemetery + Squirrel [500mm PF]

Herman, I was thinking of you this morning!

I passed by the Cemetery again today.  The light today is hazy, a thin hazy, actually.  No real blue sky, so perfect diffuser!

I went and found the trumpet, bronze statues.  Sun was not in the perfect spot as when I had the 300mm and it was noon.  So, a miss on both parts.  See the images below!

This angel was shot with the 500mm f5.6 PF lens, handheld, from roughly the same spot I took a similar image with the 300mm f2.8.

All I did was sharpen and crop in Capture NX-D.

This is the image I put up before using the 300mm f2.8. This image was taken in late daylight and is warmer.

This squirrel was taken in the shade!

and so was this monument of sorts ....

I did a minor Glamor Glow in Color FX on the Angle, just to get it closer in color to the 300mm version:

Downie vs Hairy ... know your Pecker [500mm PF]

10 December 2019 - 11:47 PM

On FB, I just realized after all these years, I still can't tell the difference between Downie and Hairy Woodpeckers without referencing...

Since I was in the middle of a Woodpecker convention while I was out shooting with my new toy, here are my two best examples of the little Peckers!

The difference is obvious in these two images.....

Hairy is on the left [or top image], Downie is on the right [or second image]!

Look at the beaks.  One is long and slender, the other short a more delicate.

And, now you know your woodpeckers.

Sorry Dennis.

Woodpecker ... 500mm PF

08 December 2019 - 06:37 PM

I had a mountain of fun with this lens today.  Just getting acquainted for the first time with the new lens.

All images handheld. It is a breeze and a pleasure to handhold.  It weighs nothing by comparison to the 200-400mm I typically haul around.

I turned VR on, boy that helped sharpen the images.

A FIRST for me ... Brown Thrasher

08 December 2019 - 06:17 PM

This is the first time I have ever seen this bird.  I was out for a walk this afternoon at James Gardens (big greenbelt park in West End Toronto, follows along the Humber River which winds its way down to Lake Ontario) and I saw this big brown bird.  I instictively just pointed and fired off a burst.

I am delighted.  The images could have been a bit sharper but I had no time to play. Bird was very skittish.
