Herman, I was thinking of you this morning!
I passed by the Cemetery again today. The light today is hazy, a thin hazy, actually. No real blue sky, so perfect diffuser!
I went and found the trumpet, bronze statues. Sun was not in the perfect spot as when I had the 300mm and it was noon. So, a miss on both parts. See the images below!
This angel was shot with the 500mm f5.6 PF lens, handheld, from roughly the same spot I took a similar image with the 300mm f2.8.
All I did was sharpen and crop in Capture NX-D.

I did a minor Glamor Glow in Color FX on the Angle, just to get it closer in color to the 300mm version:
